Are We Americans Too Arrogant

The National news is filled with articles about President Obama being out manipulated by Vladimir Putin. Now, people that were opposed to getting involved in Syria are having second thoughts because of an Op Ed piece that Putin sent to the New York times.

Really? Are we as a people really that shallow?

Here is exactly what Putin wrote:

“My working and personal relationship with President Obama is marked by growing trust. I appreciate this. I carefully studied his address to the nation on Tuesday. And I would rather disagree with a case he made on American exceptionalism, stating that the United States’ policy is “what makes America different. It’s what makes us exceptional.” It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.”

People, if we are insulted by this then our skin is way too thin. Putin did not verbally attack America. He basically said what any good parent tells their child, any good coach tells their players, any good boss or co-worker tells their employee/co-worker, and what any good friend tells their friend when that person gets too “full of themselves”…that you should not see yourself as “all that” and think that you are better than anyone else.

If we see ourselves as exceptional, as better than other people, then we are basically being arrogant. The definition of arrogant is: “having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.”

Even the bible talks about how we should not be arrogant…scroll to the bottom of this article for some quotes from the Bible on this subject.

Now, back to my original point. It was arrogance on Obama’s part to want to strike Syria to start with. Think about it, this man said that a red line for us would be if Syria used chemical weapons. He also used the term, “it would change my calculus” in that same q/a regarding Syria’s use of chemical weapons. During Obama’s first term Bill Clinton once described Obama as an “amateur.” Truer words have never been spoken. Obama painted himself into a corner by going “off script/teleprompter” talking about the red line and changing his calculus. Then, when pushed on whether this issue with Syria would tarnish his credibility Obama had the audacity to say that his credibility was not on the line. He said that the international community, Congress, and the American People’s credibility are on the line but that his credibility was fine. So basically, Obama pointed fingers at everyone else for his mistake. Talk about the epitome of selfishness, arrogance, and stupidity. Obama has it all…in spades.

Now we have both Russia and Syria saying that the United States is helping terrorists by supplying the rebels. You know what, let’s just admit it they are right.

My point in all of this is so what, Obama was out manipulated by Putin. Sometimes we have a dud as a President and Obama is certainly that. He has held less cabinet meetings, he takes more vacations, he plays more golf, than just about any other President that we have had. He either does not take the job too seriously, or he just doesn’t know what to do. Either way, as a President of the United States Obama is an amateur. But do we really want to deploy our military to get involved in Syria, where our enemies are killing our enemies and there is no “end game” in sight for us just because our President is an amateur and we got our feathers ruffled because the Russian President out manipulated him in the international media?

I certainly hope that we, as Americans, are not that arrogant.

Read what the Bible says about arrogance and think long and hard on this, my fellow citizens. If you agree with me that the United States needs to not get involved in Syria (I think that we should not even be supplying their terrorist rebels either) then call your representatives in the Senate and Congress and tell them so. Let’s not let our Amateur President start another war that we have no business being in.
